Himachal Pradesh Accident:Six people, including five from single family died after their car plunged about 500 metres into a gorge in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Police received information about the accident and quickly reached the site. The mishap occurred near Chanvas in the Tissa subdivision on Thursday night.
Police said the vehicle was returning from Banikhet when a falling rock struck it, causing the car to lose control and fall into the deep gorge. The family was only about one kilometre from their home at the time of the incident.
Among the deceased was Rajesh, a government school teacher in Banikhet, along with his wife Hanso, aged 36, their son Deepak, 15 and daughter Aarti, 17. Also killed were Rajesh’s brother-in-law Hemraj and another passenger the family had given a lift to.

Locals rushed to the site after hearing screams and immediately informed the police. Home Guard personnel also joined in the rescue efforts. It took nearly six hours to recover all the bodies, which were then sent for postmortem examinations.
Chamba Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav confirmed that all six occupants died on the spot. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to establish all the details surrounding the accident.

Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rains have severely impacted Himachal Pradesh, causing 357 roads to be blocked and disrupting 599 power transformers, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. Water supply has been affected in 177 schemes across the state. The State Disaster Management Authority reported 208 monsoon-related deaths so far, including 112 due to landslides, floods and building collapses and 96 from road accidents worsened by poor weather.
Kullu and Mandi are the hardest hit, with numerous road closures and power outages. Rescue and restoration work is ongoing, but continuous rain is slowing progress. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in vulnerable zones.
