Out of these 2.7 lakh cases, 44 percent were related to the housing sector. Of the 4.3 lakh cases registered across all 35 State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions (SCDRC) in the country, more than half were related to the insurance (25.1%), housing (18.7%) and banking (8.7%) sectors. Every fourth complaint in the district commissions was related to insurance.

The NCDCR has jurisdiction to hear cases costing more than Rs 2 crore and hear appeals from state commissions. This authority registered more than 2,71,000 cases and disposed of 79,000 cases. It took an average of 448 days and seven hearings to dispose of a case. The report says, 35 percent of the cases registered at the national level had more than three pending cases.
