A gang from Jharkhand that stole mobile phones during the IPL match in Bengaluru has been arrested. 3 minors were involved in this. Police have recovered 21 mobile phones worth Rs 18 lakh.
Bengaluru: Cubbon Park Police has arrested a gang that stole mobile phones during the IPL match at the city’s famous Chinnaswamy Stadium. This gang consists of four people, out of which three are minors. These people had come to Bengaluru by flight from Jharkhand specifically with the intention of committing theft. Police said that Shubham Kumar, resident of Jharkhand, and three minor boys have been arrested. 21 mobile phones worth around Rs 18 lakh have also been recovered from them. After the end of the IPL match, when many complaints of mobile theft were received, the police immediately came into action. On the basis of technical information, the police caught the thieves even before they left the city.
Came to Bengaluru by flight for theft
According to the police, gang leader Shubham Kumar is an old criminal of Jharkhand and many cases are registered against him there too. This gang is notorious for stealing expensive mobile phones at crowded events. Shubham learns that the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is on Saturday at Chinnaswamy Stadium. He also knew that there would be a huge crowd in the home match of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). To take advantage of this, Shubham and his associates made a complete plan for the theft.
As per the plan, Shubham reached Bengaluru by flight with the minor boys. On the day of the match, Shubham remained outside the stadium, while the three minor boys bought tickets online and went inside the stadium as spectators. When an exciting match was going on between RCB and SRH and the spectators were completely engrossed in the game, these boys touched their expensive mobile phones.
More than 20 people had complained
When people came out of the stadium after the match was over, they realized that their pockets had been ransacked and their mobile phones were missing. But by then this gang from Jharkhand had fled from there. After this, more than 20 people lodged a complaint of mobile theft at Cubbon Park Police Station. The police registered an FIR and immediately formed teams to catch the thieves.
Police security breached
There was tight police vigil around the Chinnaswamy Stadium to avoid any untoward incident like stampede during the IPL match. By penetrating this tight security, the thieves committed such a big theft inside the stadium, which became a matter of embarrassment even for the police officers. DCP Akshay Machindra Hake formed special teams to catch the thieves. ACP Dr. Priyadarshini, Inspector K.S. The team of Devendrappa and Sub-Inspector Rajkumar acted swiftly and succeeded in catching this gang.
Some other minors also in custody
According to sources, Cubbon Park Police has detained more than 10 minor boys in this case of mobile theft. However, so far only three minors have been officially arrested.
Why use minors?
During investigation, it was revealed that the gang leaders used minors to escape from the clutches of the law. There is not much suspicion on minors in places like stadiums. Also, even if they are caught, they easily get bail. These masterminds used to take advantage of this.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said, “The accused who stole mobile phones during the IPL match have been caught. Investigation has revealed that they have committed thefts not only at the stadium but also at other places in the city. We are also contacting the police of other states to find out whether this gang has also committed similar thefts in IPL matches held in other cities.”
