Hi-Tech Cameras Deployed To Search For Missing Persons Under Debris; Choppers Used To Airlift Victims

The search and rescue operation into the flash flood hit Dharali of Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi, as several people are still missing, including locals and pilgrims. Army, ITBP, NDRF and SDRF are carrying out joint rescue operations to save people after multiple people are feared trapped under the debris. The rescue teams are moving rubble in search of missing people. 

According to official data, 729 people have been evacuated from parts of the disaster-hit Dharali area that are still cut off following a mudslide and flash floods on Tuesday. The district administration has confirmed four deaths and 49 people have been missing since the disaster, news agency PTI reported.

The search and rescue operation is leveraging cutting-edge technology, including:

– Victim Locating Camera (VLC): A state-of-the-art tool designed to locate people trapped under debris.

– Thermal Imaging Camera: This equipment uses heat signatures to detect potential survivors.

These advanced devices are being utilised by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to aid in their efforts to find individuals buried under the rubble.

On the fifth day of rescue operations, four helicopters from the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Authority commenced sorties to rescue people taking shelter in various locations across the district. A Chinook helicopter was also pressed into service, transporting a generator set to the relief camp from Jollygrant airport on Saturday morning.
