Sanjay Dutt attended Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik organised Dahi Handi event on September 5 in Thane. Sanjay and the Maharashtra minister share a strong bond of friendship for the past 25 years. During the event, Pratap Sarnaik requested Sanju Baba to speak in Marathi on the stage since he has been asking the auto rickshaw and taxi drivers to speak in the regional language for a while. After hearing his request, the Vaastav actor gave a funny reply to the minister. He said that he is not fluent in Marathi, but the actor definitely tried to interact with people in the same language.
Sanjay Dutt On Marathi Language
In a viral video from Thane’s Dahi Handi event, was seen gracing the function of his old friend and transport minister, Pratap Sarnaik. At one point, the minister says, “Aajkal main sab logon ko Marathi sikha raha hoon (These days, I am teaching everyone Marathi).” He even asks Sanjay Dutt to talk in Marathi since he speaks Hindi but understands the regional language.
After his request, Sanjay Dutt takes the mic and gives a funny answer. He says, “Pratap bhai. Main 6 saal jail me raha, Yervada mein. Tab bhi Marathi nahi seekh paaya. Main thoda seekha tha. (I was in the Yervada Jail for six years, and even there I didn’t learn Marathi. I learnt a little).” Later, he greets the crowd in Marathi and says, “Main Pratap bhai ka aabhaari hoon ki mujhe yahan bulaye. Hamara rishta bahut purana hai, 25 saal ho gaye hain (I am grateful to Pratap bhai for calling me here. We go way back, almost 25 years).”
The video is going viral on social media, and Sanjay Dutt’s reaction has left the netizens divided. For the unversed, Sanjay can’t speak Marathi fluently. But the actor understands the language and respects the same.
He has also played Marathi characters in several films like Vaastav, Hathyar, Baba and so on. He has also done a bilingual film, in which the actor played the role of Afzal Khan. The film turned out to be a big hit at the box office.
