Here’s How Much An MG Gloster Depreciates After 5 Years

Owning a big, full-sized SUV, is an aspiration that many Indian families wish to fulfill once in their lifetime. From the first-generation Tata Safari to the Ford Endeavour and now Toyota Fortuner, these tall and bulky machines have managed to capture the imagination of many fans due to their road presence alone.

However, with ever-increasing prices of new cars, the dream of owning a D-segment 6 to 7-seater seems to be getting away for many.

Among the current lot of full-sized SUVs that are available in the market, the MG Gloster has its own fanbase due to its exorbitant dimensions. While a brand new base model Gloster would set you back by at least Rs 45 lakh on road, what about a used car that promises to offer the same convenience but at a lower sticker price? Here is an assessment of how much a Gloster SUV should have depreciated after a 5 year or 50,000 km ownership.

While the residual value calculators and pre-owned car platforms usually give us a fair idea of what a pre-owned car with 5 years age and 50,000 km mileage would cost, the Gloster’s residual value estimates seem to be divided. When launched in October 2020, a Gloster Savvy 6-seater variant costed approximately Rs 40.33 lakh on-road.

Residual value calculators show that the top-end Savvy 6-seater variant from 2020 should be valued at Rs 15 lakh on average. On the other hand, asking prices for a 5-year/50,000km old Gloster Savvy 6-seater have an average quote of Rs 20-25 lakh on used car platforms. This puts the matter of a Gloster’s justified residual value in question as there is a major gap in prices calculated based on depreciation and the prices quoted, based on market demand.

However, estimates from pre-owned car portals would precede the calculator estimations in this comparison as they represent actual vehicles and real transactions. Considering the same, a 2020 Gloster’s Rs 20 lakh valuation shows that an SUV which was bought for Rs 40.33 lakh, 5 years ago, still retains 49.7 percent of its purchase value in 2025. This puts the MG Gloster at an advantage, considering that the average residual value for a car this age in India is between 30-40 percent of the original purchase price.
