Here’s How It Compares To Speed 400

Triumph Thruxton 400 India Launch Today: Triumph will launch its upcoming cafe racer, the Thruxton 400, today, August 6. While the launch is yet to take place, recently emerged spy images fully reveal the production-spec Thruxton 400. According to the spy images, the Thruxton 400 and the Speed 400 will differ in styling and riding ergonomics, but major underpinnings will be the same.

Triumph Thruxton 400 vs Speed 400: Styling Elements

Being a cafe racer, the upcoming Thruxton 400 will feature a semi-fairing, a circular LED headlamp, bar-end mirrors, a single-seat setup, and a rear cowl. A sportier fuel tank, a revised taillamp, and a blacked-out USD (upside-down) fork are also on the cards. On the other hand, the USD front fork on the Speed 400 gets a gold-coloured finish.

We expect at least two triple-tone paint schemes upon launch: red-black and yellow-black, both with a contrasting silver bar.

Triumph Thruxton 400 vs Speed 400: Riding Ergonomics

More rear-set footpegs and lower-set clip-on handlebars will likely constitute a forward-leaning riding position, whereas the Speed 400 offers an upright riding position.

Triumph Thruxton 400, Speed 400: Underpinnings, Engine

The Triumph 400cc cafe racer will use the same underpinnings as the Speed 400. Moreover, the same 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine will be carried over as well. Available with the current 400cc Triumph family, the 398cc engine with a 6-speed gearbox develops 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. However, we expect some adjustments to the gear ratios to suit the Thruxton’s sportier character.

Triumph Thruxton 400 vs Speed 400: Wheels, Tyres

While the Thruxton 400 and the Speed 400 are expected to share features such as 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-channel ABS, and disc brakes, tyres could be an area of difference. Whereas the Speed 400 is currently fitted with Vredestein rubber tyres, the Thruxton 400 is believed to get MRF tyres.

Features-wise, the cafe racer is expected to offer a semi-digital instrument cluster and LED lighting. Safety equipment could include an upside-down suspension set-up, dual-channel ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), disc brakes, and traction control. A USB charging port could also be made available.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Price, Positioning

In terms of its positioning, the 400cc cafe racer will likely slot above the Scrambler 400 X. Expect the bike to be priced between Rs 2.50 lakh and Rs 2.70 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
