use mild detergent

  • Heavy sarees should never be washed with regular powder detergent, always use baby shampoo or special liquid cleaner for silk.
  • First, fill a tub with cold water, dissolve detergent in the water, then add the saree. Soak the saree in this water for about 5 to 7 minutes and then take it out.

press gently instead of rubbing

Never rub or brush sarees with heavy embroidery, zari or sequins. Slowly move these sarees up and down in the water and apply light pressure on the stained area with your fingers. Putting too much pressure on these sarees can damage them quickly.

If there is a slight stain on the saree, apply a few drops of lemon juice on the stain. Then, wash with cold water after 2 to 3 minutes. While using the lemon remedy, make sure to test it on a corner of the saree before applying it on the stain.
