‘Head for an eye’: Iran warns US of ‘deadline’ amid tensions in the Middle East

Tehran: Amid the increase in tensions in West Asia, Iran’s new military adviser Mohsen Rezaei on Tuesday threatened the US with severe retaliation and also set a ‘deadline’ for Washington. Tehran warned that there was not much time left for the US.

In an interview with Iran’s state-run IRNA, Rezaei said, “The final deadlines to save US are approaching. There is not much time left”. He added that any any on Iran’s infrastructure will lead to a strong response by Tehran.

Conflict will end only if sanctions are lifted: Iran

“Our response will not be an eye for an eye, but instead it would head for an eye. We will not only paralyse you and drown you in the Gulf,” the IRNA quoted him as saying further. Accusing Israel of drawing the US in the war, he added that war was the result of ambitions of a “Greater Israel.”

Rezai further noted that the conflict would end only if sanctions on Iran are lifted, apart from compensation for damages and guarantees of no future attacks on Iran. The remark came amid conflicting signals from diplomatic fronts.

Threat amid conflicting signals

Earlier on Monday, President Donald Trump claimed to have ‘good talks’ with Iran and said that the US would halt strikes for next five days. Tehran on the other hand had claimed that the US backed down after a strong warning from Iran.

“Trump backs down after Iran’s firm warning. After the Islamic Republic warned that if the United States attacked Iran’s energy infrastructure, it would target energy infrastructure across the entire region, Trump backed down and said that he had ordered a postponement of the attack,” it wrote in a post on X. The war has entered its fourth week amid fear of a wider regional war in the Middle East.
