‘He is very sick’: Trump reveals details of shooter at White House Correspondents’ dinner, hails Secret Service

New Delhi: The President of the United States, Donald Trump and other officials of the administration including including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard survived a scare on Saturday night as shots were fired at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner in Washington.

Trump addressed press conference

Trump was evacuated from the scene and he later addressed a press conference to share insights on the incident. He said, “It was an event dedicated to freedom of speech and it was supposed to see an union of different people from both parties. The brave personnel of Secret Service acted quickly. They showed how law enforcement and Secret Service take swift action to protect the country. We told the Secret Service agent who brought the attacker down that we respect him, and he is a proud guy. The building where the event was hosted did not have enough security. The law enforcement is working with the DC Police in the investigation.”

Law enforcement is checking his apartment, background

Regarding the attacker, Trump said, “You can see visuals of the attackers totally subdued and under control. The law enforcement acted very quickly, and all of us were impressed. The man has been captured, he lives in California and is a very sick person. The law enforcement is checking his apartment. The response time of the Secret Service was incredible.”

He added, “This is not the first time a Republican has come under attack in recent years. We have to resolve our differences, Republicans, Democrats, liberals and others. The event was based on the importance of free speech, and we will do it again in a bigger and better way. We cannot let anyone cancel our things or dictate us. I want to tell you that I fought like hell to stay.”
