Hema Malini had narrated the story related to the shooting set of Sholay

Hema Malini once shared a heart-wrenching memory from the sets of the cult classic film Sholay, in which she told how she got bruises on her hand and it turned blue during a scene with Amjad Khan. He described that moment as extremely shocking and unforgettable. In an episode of Indian Idol Season 13, where Hema appeared as a special guest, she told that when she worked with Amjad Khan for the first time, he looked very scary. He said, “The biggest thing is Amjad Khan Sahab. As soon as the shooting started on the first day, oh my God, he seemed so genuine.” Amjad Sahab was so engrossed in the role of Gabbar Singh that he inadvertently got hurt during a particular scene. Recalling the shooting of the song Jab Tak Hai Jaan.., Hema told how the injury occurred. In this scene, Gabbar had to pull Basanti back forcefully. He had told – “In that song, he holds me and holds me so hard that my hand turned completely blue. However, I did not say anything until the scene was completely shot, then everyone was shocked to see it and Amjad Khan Sahab even apologized.”

Ramesh Sippy’s film Sholay was released on 15 August 1975. The film did not get good response in theaters for 2 weeks of its release. Then there was such mouth publicity that the film became a blockbuster. The film was made on a budget of Rs 3 crore and collected Rs 35 crore at the box office. The film featured Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, Ek Hangal, Asrani, Jagdeep, Mac Mohan, Sachin etc. The writers of the film were Salim-Javed and producer was GP Sippy.
