HDFC Bank Share Price Hits Over 2-Year Low, Falls 12% in 2 Months

HDFC Bank’s share price hit an over two-year low of Rs 726.50, down by 1 per cent on the BSE in Tuesday’s intra-day deals. India’s leader in private sector lending, HDFC Bank’s share price fell below its previous low of Rs 726.75, which it touched on April 2, 2026, as per the exchange data.

In the last two months,  slipped 12 per cent, against a 0.74 per cent rise in the BSE Sensex.

HDFC Bank’s stock price has hit its lowest level since May 2024. In 2026, HDFC Bank underperformed. The stock prices fell 27 per cent, compared to a 8.2 per cent decline in the BSE Sensex.

Bank’s stock prices hit a 52-week high of Rs 1,020.35 on October 23, 2025.

Foreign investors’ selling continues:

For the fifth straight quarter, the Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have reduced their holding in HDFC Bank.

As per the data, the FPIs’ holding in HDFC Bank declined to 41.83 per cent at the end of the June 2026 quarter. This was down from 44.05 per cent at the end of the March 2026 quarter.

In the December 2025 quarter, FPIs held 47.67 per cent in the private sector lender and 48.39 per cent holding at the end of the September 2025 quarter.

Domestic investors increase stake:

On the other hand, the Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) have increased their stake in HDFC Bank to 41.9 per cent in the June quarter.

DIIs held a 36.3 per cent holding at the end of the September 2025 quarter.

Further, the individual public shareholders also raised their stake in HDFC Bank to 16.3 per cent from 15.6 per cent in the previous quarter and 15.1 per cent at the end of the December 2025 quarter.

Recently, the HDFC Bank has cut its Marginal Cost of Funds-based Lending Rate (MCLR) by 5 basis points (bps) across most loan tenures.

The reduction is by 0.05 percentage point at the affected tenures, one bps is one-hundredth of a percentage point. Now, the bank’s MCLR ranges from 8 per cent to 8.65 per cent, depending on the reset tenor.
