Varanasi: The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh has heated up over the intoxicating cough syrup scandal. Congress has raised serious questions on the functioning of the Yogi government in this matter. State Congress President Ajay Rai cornered the government through a symbolic protest in Varanasi, alleging that the law is being used in a “selective” manner in the state. He said that where action should be taken against criminals and mafia, the government seems to be silent.

Protest registered through symbolic bulldozer and whistle

On Saturday, while talking to the media at the camp office in Lahurabir, Varanasi, Ajay Rai expressed his protest in a unique way. He took a symbolic bulldozer in his hand and took a dig at the government by whistling through his mouth. Ajay Rai said, “Has Baba’s bulldozer got cold? ‘Bulldozers only for the opposition?’

The State Congress President raised questions on the bulldozer campaign of the Yogi government and said whether this action is only to suppress the voices of opposition and dissent. He asked why this bulldozer becomes helpless in front of criminals and mafia. Ajay Rai alleges that instead of taking action against the real culprits, the government is targeting those who raise questions.

Mention of Amitabh Thakur’s appearance, also targeted at police

Referring to former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, Ajay Rai said that when he was raising questions in the intoxicating cough syrup case, during his appearance the policemen made noise by whistling. He termed it an attempt to suppress the voice and said that such behavior with those who raise questions is not acceptable in a democracy.

Main accused abroad, government accused of silence

The Congress state president claimed that the main accused in the intoxicating cough syrup case, Shubham Jaiswal, is active on social media while sitting abroad, while the central and state governments are maintaining silence. He raised the question that when the Luthra Brothers of Goa can be arrested from Thailand and brought to India, then why the main accused in this case is not being brought back from abroad. Ajay Rai also said that since this is the parliamentary constituency of the Prime Minister, the government should show more sensitivity in this matter.

Five big demands from Congress government

During the press conference, Ajay Rai put forward many demands before the government. He said that all the accused in the intoxicating cough syrup case should be arrested immediately. There should be a thorough investigation of the bank accounts of all the suspects linked to this scam. The main accused Shubham Jaiswal should be brought to India from abroad and arrested immediately. Bulldozer action should be taken on properties and houses made from illegal earnings.

Declaration of struggle from road to house

Ajay Rai said that if the government is fair then the law should be equal for everyone. He warned that the Congress party will fight against this alleged anti-people and pro-mafia attitude from the streets to the House. He also demanded that former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur should not be mistreated in any way and the government should take fair and transparent action in this entire matter.
