Harish Rana’s life completely changed after an accident. In July 2010, he took admission in Civil Engineering at Chandigarh University and was considered a good student in studies. In the year 2013, he was in the final year of his course. Meanwhile, on the day of Rakshabandhan in August 2013, he was talking to his sister on mobile. During this time he fell from the fourth floor of his PG.
He was immediately admitted to PGI Chandigarh in critical condition. Later in December 2013, he was shifted to LNJP Hospital in Delhi. After examination, doctors said that he was suffering from a serious condition called quadriplegia. In this disease, the hands and legs of the body stop working and the patient becomes completely dependent on others.
Considering the condition of Harish, who is suffering from prolonged pain and physical disability, his parents approached the court. He had demanded permission for euthanasia in Delhi High Court. However, on July 8, 2025, the Delhi High Court rejected this petition. After this the family appealed to the Supreme Court.
