Haridwar row: Woman bathing pet dog in Ganga sparks outrage at Ghat

New Delhi: A video sparked controversy in the city of faith and devotion, Haridwar, after a woman arrived at the Ganga Ghat with her pet dog. A huge uproar was witnessed on the Ghat as locals and devotees were enraged by seeing the dog at the place of faith.

A woman visited Haridwar with her family and pet dog. She began bathing the dog in the holy water. After seeing the incident, devotees started protesting and called it a violation of the Ganga’s dignity.

The woman didn’t calm down after seeing the locals’ anger, but she also became enraged and started a heated argument with the locals and devotees. The family of the woman intervened in the situation by seeing that the matter was escalated and sensing public anger.

After the persuasion, the woman immediately left the Ghat with her dog. The video engaged huge uproar on social media as well. Users demanded heavy fines on those who bathe pets or litter at sacred sites to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

Pilgrim priests express their objection

Pilgrim priests have also expressed strong objection to the incident. Pilgrim priest Ujjwal Pandit said that the Ganga is not just a river, but a symbol of faith for millions of people. Such actions on the ghats hurt religious sentiments. He demanded that the administration take strict action against such individuals and increase surveillance on the ghats to maintain the dignity of the Ganga.
