In Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, when an 80-year-old woman returned to her maternal home after 65 years, the eyes of the entire village became moist. Mithani, who was kidnapped during a robbery at the age of 15, at the last stage of her life revisited the courtyard which she had remembered for more than six decades.

The night of 1961-62 that changed life
A man named Baldev lived with his family in a small hamlet outside the village. In the year 1961-62, dacoits attacked here. When they did not find much stuff in the house, the dacoits attacked Baldev and his son Shivlal with daggers and injured them. They took away 15 year old Mithani, who was living in the same house, with them. At that time, Mithani was married in Punuavar village of Sursa police station area and her marriage was to take place next month. This incident, which came at an age full of dreams, changed the direction of his entire life.

From the clutches of dacoits to Aligarh
For a few days after the kidnapping, Mithani tried to return home, but the circumstances were against her. The gang kept taking him from forest to forest. Later he was handed over to someone in Aligarh. According to the local story, when wrestler Sohanlal Yadav, resident of Samegha village of Dado police station area of Aligarh, got information about this, he along with his associates raided the dacoits’ hideout and rescued Mithani.
New life, but old memories remain
After being freed from the dacoits, Sohanlal Yadav married Mithni. Both of them had eight children – five daughters and three sons. Life kept moving forward, but the memories of her maternal home never faded in Mithani’s mind. She used to tell the stories of robbery and kidnapping to her children. He remembered the names of his father and brothers—Shivlal and Subedar. He also remembered that his house was near a big Shiva temple in Hardoi district. But she did not know who was alive in the family and who was not.
The daughter decided to send her mother to her parents’ home.
Mithani’s youngest daughter Seema Yadav, who lives in Noida, understood her mother’s feelings. When her 80-year-old mother repeatedly remembered her maternal home, Seema decided to take her to Hardoi.
Mother and daughter reached Hardoi from Aligarh on Friday. From the station she asked for directions to the Shiv temple of Sakaha and reached there. As soon as I saw the temple, Mithani’s memories came back. Recognition of paths gradually began to awaken.
Sister-in-law and brother-in-law reunite after 65 years
After interrogation in the village, it was found that both his brothers are no longer in this world, but their families live in the village. Mithani reached her brother Shivlal’s house and introduced herself to the daughter-in-law there. The story of home robbery and kidnapping was already familiar. The family welcomed Mithani and took her inside the house. As soon as the news spread, relatives and villagers gathered there. This meeting after more than six decades was full of emotions.

Mithani’s daughter Seema says that she is relieved that she has fulfilled her mother’s last wish. After meeting her parents, Mithani returned to her home, but this journey completed an incomplete chapter of her life.
