Mithila Palkar tried her hand at comedy with Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos. She plays the role of Rupa in the Vir Das-directed spy comedy.
After a gap of almost 7 years, the actress has a Hindi theatrical release. In an exclusive interview with Zoom for Happy Patel, Mithila revealed whether the gap was intentional to focus on building a legacy on digital entertainment space. Dismissing it as a conscious call, the actress shared that whatever she signed in those 7 years was always meant to stream on OTT. Mithila also spoke about making her Telugu web series debut in 2026.
Mithila Palkar on having no Hindi theatrical release for 7 years
Mithila clarified that the 7-year-long gap wasn’t deliberate. She told Zoom, “It was because of the opportunities that came my way and how the projects I signed were mounted. I did two Hindi projects which are now out on OTT. As an artiste, it is not upto me where I want to see my project. That’s a different conversation and I haven’t contributed to those conversations so far. Whatever projects I signed were meant to release on the internet. I am not complaining about it because that is where I was born and created.”
Mithila Palkar called ‘too urban’ for certain roles
Talking about her Telugu web series debut, Mithila shared that the project gave her the confidence to explore more subjects in languages not native to her. Lauding the director of the show for giving her a chance to experiment with an unconventional role, Palkar recalled being told previously that she is ‘too urban’ to play a certain character. “So far, I have played urban girl roles. Somebody told me that you look too urban to play a role,” she added.
Male vs female
When asked if such remarks are only for women and not male actors, Mithila said, “That is also a part of my journey. I am like a horse, mujhe aage badhna hai. I don’t get into that male and female debate. Yes, certain things set us apart. I have experienced this, maybe they’re not even fishing for such roles. I haven’t heard my male peers talk about it, probably because they’re not going out trying Telugu and Tamil projects.”
Besides Mithila, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos stars Vir in the titular role along with Mona Singh as the antagonist. Aamir Khan makes a cameo and Imran Khan returns to the big screen after a decade.
