Hanuman Jayanti 2026: The holy festival of Hanuman Jayanti is considered very special for the devotees. On this day people worship Bajrangbali and seek his blessings. But have you ever wondered why Hanuman ji is called Rudra Avatar? There is a very interesting and spiritual story hidden behind it, which is related to Lord Shiva and Mother Anjani. Let us know the whole story related to this mystery and the special boon which made Hanuman ji unique.

Why is Hanuman ji called the 11th Rudra incarnation of Shiva?

According to mythological beliefs, Hanuman ji is considered to be the 11th Rudra incarnation of Lord Shiva. According to Shiva Purana, when Lord Vishnu decided to take the incarnation of Ram, Mahadev also had a desire to serve him. Mahadev knew that the work of Lord Rama would be very difficult and it would require a helper who was unmatched in strength and intelligence. Since Shiva and Vishnu are complementary to each other, Lord Shiva incarnated as Hanuman from his part so that he could serve Lord Shri Ram.

How was Hanuman ji born?

There is an interesting story behind the birth of Hanuman ji of the harsh penance of Mother Anjani and the boon of Mahadev. Mother Anjana was an Apsara who got the form of a monkey due to a curse. To get a son, he performed severe penance to Lord Shiva on the advice of sage Matang. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared and gave him the boon of having a son. Mahadev said that he himself would be born as his son.

At the same time, King Dasharatha was performing Putrakameshti Yagya in Ayodhya to get a son. An eagle flew away carrying a portion of the kheer received from Agni Dev and dropped it where Anjani was doing penance. Due to the speed of Vayu Dev (Wind God), that kheer fell into the hands of Mother Anjani. After accepting it, Hanuman ji, a part and parcel of Shiva, was born from the womb of Mother Anjani. This is the reason why he is called both Anjaniputra and Pawanputra.

The powers of Lord Shiva are contained in Hanumanji.

of Shiva Purana Kotirudra Samhita Chapter 20 Hanuman ji has been described as the 11th Rudra incarnation of Lord Shiva. Due to Hanuman ji being the incarnation of Rudra, he has amazing qualities and powers similar to Shiva. Like Mahadev, no one can defeat Hanuman ji. Lord Shiva is a symbol of renunciation and Hanuman ji is a child celibate. Just as Shiva is both the destroyer and protector, similarly Hanuman ji removes all the troubles of his devotees.
