Gandhi To Premiere At TIFF 2025: Hansal Mehta’s highly anticipated web series Gandhi is all set for its world premiere at the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Featuring Pratik Gandhi in the lead role, the show has become the first Indian series to be showcased in TIFF’s prestigious Primetime Programme. This selection marks a historic moment for Indian content on the global stage. Hansal Mehta, along with producer Sameer Nair and lead actor Pratik Gandhi, will attend the world premiere at TIFF. They will be joined by international actors Kabir Bedi, Siddharth Khaitan, and Tom Felton, among others.
Legendary music composer AR Rahman officially announced the news on social media. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Glad to announce the world premiere of Gandhi at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025, the first Indian series to be selected in TIFF’s prestigious Primetime slate! This series is Produced by Applause Entertainment and Directed by Hansal Mehta.” Along with his announcement, Rahman also shared a sneak peek of Pratik Gandhi’s look in the series. Rahman has composed the music for this web series. The project is based on the biographies written by noted historian Ramachandra Guha.
Meanwhile, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Hansal Mehta said, “TIFF has previously been home to some of my most precious pieces of work, and to have perhaps the most ambitious story of my career premiering there is doubly special—particularly in TIFF’s 50th year. To share this journey at a festival that has embraced me over the years is both humbling and surreal. I hope it opens the door for more Indian series to find their place on the world stage.”
Additionally, Hansal Mehta earlier shared his thoughts on bringing Gandhi’s story to life. “The story of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, especially his more formative years spent in London and South Africa, is a story for our times. An untouched but powerful tale of a young man on a journey of self-discovery, not knowing what impact it would have on history and our collective consciousness. I’m truly honoured to have the opportunity to bring this epic story to life,” he said.

Hansal Mehta has been working on the series Gandhi for over four years. The series explores the life of Mahatma Gandhi, particularly his early years spent in London and South Africa. These formative experiences shaped the young Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and laid the foundation for his future role in India’s freedom struggle.
Furthermore, the series features a strong mix of Indian and international actors. While Pratik Gandhi portrays Mahatma Gandhi, his real-life wife Bhamini Oza plays Kasturba Gandhi.
