Hamas confirms the death of long time spokesperson Abu Obeidah

The Palestinian militant group, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades also known as Hamas, announced the death of the group’s long time spokesperson Abu Obeidah on Monday, December 29.

Abu Obeidah also known as Huthayfa Samir Abdallah al-Kahlout, served as the group’s spokesperson since 2007 and was one of Hamas’s best known representatives in the Arab world. He frequently appeared in videos disseminated by the group, masked in a red- checkered Palestinian Keffiyeh.

Hamas also confirmed the death of Mohammed Sinwar, the chief of Hamas in Gaza after his older brother Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israel in 2024. Other Hamas leaders killed in Israeli airstrikes included Mohammed Shabanah, the leader of the group’s Rafah Brigade and two others included Raed Saad and Hakkam al-Issi.

Several Hamas leaders including Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh, Mohammed Deif and Abu Obeidah are among the top military leaders killed during the war on Gaza between October 2023 and October 2025.
