Haldwani Horror: 15-year-old girl forced to consume alcohol, gang-raped in car; two taxi drivers arrested

Haldwani: A shocking case of sexual assault has come to light in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Two men, working as taxi drivers, allegedly lured a 15-year-old Class 10 student on the pretext of visiting a tourist spot. They forced her to consume alcohol and then raped her inside a car at a secluded location in Kathgodam.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the minor had stepped out of her home to buy groceries. The accused, aged 20 and 24, were tenants in her neighborhood and familiar with the girl. Taking advantage of this trust, they convinced her to accompany them.

She narrated the ordeal to her family members

When the girl did not return home until late evening, her worried family began searching for her. Eventually, they found her unconscious by the roadside. After regaining consciousness, she narrated the ordeal to her family members, who immediately approached the police.

The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Both accused were identified and arrested the same night from Haidakhan area in Haldwani. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.

Accused were originally from Almora district

SP (City) Manoj Katyal confirmed the arrests, while CO Amit Kumar Saini stated that the accused were originally from Almora district and had rented accommodation near the survivor’s house. Their proximity to the victim’s residence made it easier for them to plan the crime.

Locals demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators

The case has sparked outrage in the region, with locals demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators. Child safety activists have emphasized the need for stronger community vigilance and awareness to prevent such incidents. They also urged parents to educate children about potential dangers and encourage them to seek help immediately if they feel unsafe.

Authorities have assured that the investigation will be fast-tracked and justice delivered. The survivor is receiving medical care and counseling support to help her recover from the trauma. Police officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring safety and have appealed to citizens to report suspicious activities promptly.
