H-1B Visa: Changes in America’s H-1B visa regulations have created a stir among the Indian IT sector. However, this order has also brought news of relief for doctors, as they can be exempted from this fee.
H-1B Visa: US President Donald Trump issued a new order on 19 September to shock India. Under this, now on every H-1B visa, companies will have to pay a fee of $ 1,00,000, or about 83 lakh rupees every year. This decision is considered a major setback for American tech companies and foreign employees, especially Indian IT professionals. However, there is news of relief for doctors going to America. They can get exemption from this huge fees. The Trump administration has said that in view of the national interest, doctors will be exempted in some cases. According to Nascom, this increase in H-1B visa fees will not apply to the existing visa holders. This new rule will be implemented from the year 2026.
IT sector will not have a big impact
According to media reports, Nascom, the top organization of IT companies, said in New Delhi that Indians and India companies have changed their way of operating in the US in the last few years. Now they are less dependent on H-1B visas and are promoting the recruitment locally. Let us know that in 2015, major Indian companies had received 14,792 H-1B visas, while by 2024 this number has come down to 10,162. NASCom believes that this is why the recent decision of Trump administration will not have a major impact on the IT sector.
One million dollars will have to be charged
Nascom also clarified that the increase in fees would not apply to existing visa holders. Those who apply new applications will have to pay a fee of 1 million dollars only once. This change has reduced eligibility and time limit uncertainty and especially the concerns of H-1B visa holders living outside the US have been relieved. This new rule will be applicable from 2026. That is, companies will have so long to strengthen the skilling program in the US and increase recruitment at the local level. The industry is already investing big in this direction. Skilling and recruitment in the US are being spent more than $ 100 million, and the number of local employees is continuously increasing.

Employees’ share less than 1% of the total workforce
Nascom also stated that the share of H-1B employees in the top 10 Indian and India-related companies is less than 1% of the total workforce. The H-1B visa is basically for skilled professionals, who complete the skill gap in the US. These employees get equal pay to local employees and are only a small part of the total workforce in the US.
