Guruvayur Ekadashi December 2025: According to the Panchang, Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha month is celebrated as Mokshada Ekadashi in North India. Whereas in South India and especially Kerala it is celebrated as Guruvayur Ekadashi. Today, Mokshada is being celebrated in North India and Guruvayur Ekadashi is being celebrated in South India, especially Kerala.
According to Malayalam calendar, this festival is celebrated on the Ekadashi day of Shukla Paksha of Scorpio month. On this date, worship and celebration takes place with great pomp in the famous Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple of Kerala. Who is Lord Guruvayur?
Lord Guruvayur is the form of Lord Vishnu. He is worshiped as Lord Krishna in child form. On the day of Guruvayur Ekadashi, a procession of elephants is taken out. The special attraction of this day is Gajraj Guruvayur Keshavan. He is respected. On this day, a group of elephants pay floral tributes to the statue of Guruvayur Keshavan in his memory.
Guruvayur Ekadashi puja method
On the day of Guruvayur Ekadashi, worship is done from morning to evening. Geeta is recited. Lord Vishnu and Shri Krishna are worshiped on this day. The fast of this Ekadashi starts from the night of Dashami Tithi and continues till Dwadashi Tithi. On the day of Ekadashi, fruits are offered to Lord Vishnu.
Fasting people wake up before sunrise and take bath. God is worshiped with incense, lamp, basil etc. Fasting on this day brings happiness and prosperity in life.
