Gurugram Rain Sparks India Vs China Debate

A user named Chirag Mahawar shared a video on X comparing Gurugram rain to his experience in China. He wrote, “Height of nuisance in India. The 30 minutes of rain, and this is the level of water logging as if drains don’t exist at all.”

Chirag, an IIM graduate, said that during his visit to Guangzhou, China, the streets remained dry even after hours of rain. He also shared a short video showing cars stuck in water while people carefully crossed the flooded area.

Residents Say It’s Dangerous

Another user spoke about how underpasses fill up fast during Gurugram rain. “In every underpass, water logging happens. Like literally, you can see that height is low here, and whole water will get collected, but they keep no drains inside underpasses. People can seriously die. In just 30-45 mins of rain, it becomes uncrossable.”

But not everyone agreed with comparing Gurgaon to China. One user replied, “While your complaint against Gurgaon would be genuine, we are fed up with the likes of you who have developed a habit of singing praises of China’s few developed cities, and using them to shame India on first opportunity.” Another joked, “Underwater Disneyland dekhne ko milega, wait karo 5 years.”

Key locations in Delhi NCR like Arvind Marg, GK Marg, Rail Bhawan, Akshardham, Ashram, ITO, Pul Prahladpur, MG Road, Shadipur, Madhuban Chowk, and National Highway 8 also saw heavy waterlogging and traffic jams.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that more Gurugram rain could hit soon. They said an eastward-moving cloud cluster might cause moderate to heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning, and winds up to 50 kmph are also expected.
