Through his teachings, Guru Nanak Dev Ji gave the message of equality, love, truth and service. According to the Vedic calendar, this year Kartik Purnima date is falling on Wednesday, 5 November 2025. Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Parv will be celebrated on this day. On this day, special Diwan, Kirtan, Langar and Prabhat Pheri are organized in Gurudwaras.
How is Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrated?
Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birthday is celebrated every year on Kartik Purnima. Grand ceremonies are organized in Gurudwaras in the country and abroad. Nagar Kirtan is carried out early in the morning, in which devotees carry the Guru Granth Sahib in a decorated palanquin. Shabad kirtans are sung and services are performed at various places. Langar is organized in Gurudwaras, where people of all religions, castes and classes sit together and eat food. On this day, Guru Granth Sahib is recited continuously and people remain absorbed in devotion and service throughout the day.

Importance of Guru Nanak Jayanti
Guru Nanak Dev Ji showed the path of truth, love, equality and service to the society throughout his life. His most famous teaching is – “Ek Omkar Satnam, Karta Purakh, Nirbhau, Nirvair.” It means that God is one, His name is Truth, He is the Creator of the universe, He is fearless and has no malice towards anyone. He taught people that true devotion does not only mean worshiping or fasting, but also helping others and being honest in one’s actions. The life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji teaches us that the true meaning of religion is humanity. He opposed discrimination, superstition and inequality. He said that only those who serve others truly worship God.
