Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi responded to Congress’s allegations regarding KG Basin gas discovery. He told that this discovery made in 2005 was also appreciated by the UPA government and today it is playing an important role in the energy security of the country.
Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Harsh Sanghvi recently shared an important information through social media, in which he reacted to the discovery of gas reserves in KG Basin and the political statements related to it. He presented his views linking this issue with the energy security of the country and the current global circumstances.
KG Basin Gas Discovery: Big discovery was announced in 2005
Harsh Sanghvi told that in the year 2005, the then Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi had announced the discovery of large reserves of gas in the KG Basin by Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC). At that time this discovery was seen as an important achievement, which gave new hope towards meeting the energy needs of the country.

Mani Shankar Aiyar Statement: Was described as ‘North Sea of South Asia’
According to Sanghvi, Mani Shankar Aiyer, who was the Petroleum Minister in the UPA government at the time, had welcomed this discovery. He termed it the ‘North Sea of South Asia’, which shows its possibilities and importance.
UPA Government Decision: Lease of the block was given in 2012
He further said that in the year 2012, the UPA government had granted the lease of this KG Basin block. This means that at that time the Central Government also accepted the importance of this project and cooperated in taking it forward.

Harsh Sanghvi also reacted to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s statement in which he had called KG Basin a ‘scam’. Sanghvi said that such statements are an attempt to mislead the public, because the project which was appreciated earlier is now being questioned.

Harsh Sanghvi also said that today, as a result of KG Basin, the energy supply in India remains constant even amidst situations like global war. This is a great example of strengthening the energy security of the country.
