GST Reform 2025: Smartphones To ACs, Check Full List Of Items That Got Pricier And Cheaper

GST, or Goods and Services Tax, in India plays a major role in determining the cost of all products in the Indian market. And now, the Government of India has introduced the GST 2.0, which has brought down the taxation on multiple products that belong to the consumer tech category.

The main focus of GST 2.0 was to slash the GST on items that are commonly used.

Full List Of Items That Are Getting Cheaper

Introduced in a meeting on September 3, 2025, the GST 2.0 will give relief to multiple product manufacturers. The GST on large screen TVs, washing machines, and refrigerators has been slashed down from 28% to 18% which will work as a boon for all the consumers who were planning to buy any of these products in the upcoming festive season. And most of the products that belonged to the 12% slab will be moved to either 5 per cent or 18 per cent GST, depending upon the category.

As per a report published by PTI, if we go by the literal terms, an air conditioner could now get cheaper by around Rs 1500 to Rs 2500 based on the price and model. In addition, the industry experts suggest that the GST cut will definitely motivate more people to buy products. As for TVs, all the models bigger than 32-inch were previously charged 28 per cent GST, but now they will only incur 18 per cent. And the 32-inch TVs will now incur only 5% GST, which is again an impressive aspect for both manufacturers and consumers.

What About Smartphones?

As for smartphones, there is no relief unit now, and they will keep shipping at the same 18 per cent GST, which doesn’t come as a surprise. Because keeping in mind that the lower slab than that is of only 5 per cent, the smartphone manufacturers were already not expecting anything out of it. Still, a lot of smartphone makers are still expecting to see a GST cut on smartphones on the second day of the session.
