GST RATE CUT: Not cheap milk, goods like curd, government made a big announcement in Parliament

The government has made it clear in Parliament that the slab of 12 percent GST is not going to end. Under which items like milk, curd, cheese come. A few days ago there was news that the GOM, which has been determined by the GST Council, can end the 12 % tax slab. Consensus has been reached by GOM. But the government has informed in Parliament that there is no such proposal yet. Also, no such report of GOM has come to the Finance Ministry. Let us also tell you what has been said in Parliament towards the Central Government.

Central government clarified

The central government has clarified that there is no proposal to cut the rates of Goods and Services Tax (GST) immediately. After which the possibility of getting any short -term relief to the common man is over. This explanation was given by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary during a session in the Lok Sabha on Monday, July 21. The ministers are still working on rationalizing GST rates. In response to a question raised by Ujjwal Raman Singh, MP from Allahabad constituency, Chaudhary said that any change in GST rates is decided on the basis of the recommendations of the GST Council.

Government responded

Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply that GST rates are determined on the recommendations of the GST Council, which is a constitutional institution made of states/union territories and center representatives. He further said that during the 45th meeting of the council held on 17 September, 2021, a ministerial (GOM) was formed to consider rationalization of GST rates. However, GOM has not yet submitted its report. Since the report is still awaited, the government said that no decision has been taken so far how much GST rates can be reduced or when this cut will be implemented.
