Grow Button Mushroom at Home: Mushrooms can easily grow at home. For this you need a dark room, straw. You can cultivate mushrooms in a few days of hard work.
Button mushroom is the most eaten mushroom in India. The price of 200 grams of packet in the market is 80-100 rupees. People think before eating such expensive mushrooms. But if you have space, you can easily grow button mushrooms at home. There is no need for much hard work to grow it. Growing mushrooms at home is not only economical but you will also get fresh and chemical-free crop. So let’s know what you need to grow mushrooms and how you can produce it.
Essential items for growing mushrooms
- Wheat/paddy straw or cow dung manure (to make compost)
- Mushroom Spon (Seed of Button Mushroom)
- Plastic tray or pot
- Water and spray bottle
- Darker
Compost
First of all, soak the straw in water for 8-10 hours. Then dry it and add cow dung manure and gypsum. Keep this mixture covered for 2–3 weeks so that the right compost can be made.
Spon
Fill the prepared compost in a tray or pot. If you want, you can also fill in polythene. Pour mushroom spon (seed) evenly and press it lightly. Then spray water. You put it in a dark room closed.

Earthen layer
After 2–3 weeks, white webs like threads will start appearing on the compost. Put 1 inch thick soil over this layer.
Focus on moisture and temperature
Keep the room temperature 18-22 ° C and humidity 70–80%. Spray light water 1-2 times a day. This will make the mushrooms out properly.
How many mushrooms will be ready
After about 20–25 days, the small white button mushrooms will start coming out. Break them lightly before the cap opened completely. In this way you can grow expensive mushrooms at home with a little hard work. If you grow more then you can also sell in the market.
Note- Take care of cleanliness to grow mushrooms. Hands, equipment and where they are growing, keep that area clean. Remove the affected part of the mushrooms by assuming a sign of quick fungal/bacterial infection when changing color or odor.
