Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in London for attending a pro-Palestine demonstration. She was doing a lock-on protest in support of the activists who were on hunger strike. The arrest took place under Britain’s terrorism laws.
Greta Thunberg Arrest: London police arrested Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Tuesday. According to Palestinian activist groups, Thunberg was arrested when she participated in a demonstration in support of pro-Palestinian hunger strikers. Activist group Prisoners for Palestine said Thunberg was detained while taking part in a “lock-on protest” in central London. At the time of her arrest, Thunberg was holding a poster that read, “I support Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide.”
Arrest under UK terrorism laws
Prisoners for Palestine said in a statement that Thunberg had been arrested under Britain’s Terrorism Act. The group alleged that the purpose of the protest was to draw attention to the arrests of activists described as “Palestinian action prisoners”. Some of them are still on hunger strike.
