Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is going to launch a new mobile app by April 2026. Through this app, about 8 crore members of EPFO will be able to withdraw the fixed portion of their PF (EPF) directly through UPI. According to PTI report, a part of EPF will remain locked, while the major part can be withdrawn to the bank account through UPI. This new system is part of the EPFO 3.0 upgrade, which aims to make PF withdrawals faster, paperless and completely digital.
At present, EPFO members have to give a claim to withdraw PF, which takes time. Under the new auto-settlement facility, claims will be settled electronically within 3 days without any manual intervention. The limit for this auto-settlement has already been increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. With this new system, the process will be easier and the workload on EPFO will also reduce. EPFO settles more than 5 crore claims every year, most of which are related to PF withdrawal. According to the source, the government wants that the services of EPFO should be at par with banks.
instant transfer
Members will be able to transfer money to their linked bank account almost instantly by entering the UPI PIN. There will be no need for long claim process for this. PF money for purposes like illness, education, marriage and house will be available within 3 days. There may be a limit of Rs 25,000 per transaction on withdrawing PF through UPI. It will be clearly visible in the app how much money is available for withdrawal. At least 25% of the total balance will be locked for retirement security. This facility will be available through the new EPFO app, which will be linked to BHIM app and other UPI platforms.
Trial continues now
The Ministry of Labor and Employment is currently conducting trials on 100 dummy accounts, so that any technical glitches can be fixed before the launch. The new app will be the main platform for UPI withdrawals after its public launch in April 2026, while the EPFO Unified Member Portal and UMANG app will continue to work as before for other services.
