GPT-5 coming to Apple devices with iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 rollout

It is said that Apple will roll out the GPT-5 model of OpenAI to Apple iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 with its September software releases. It is anticipated that the rollout will be accompanied by the release of the iPhone 17 series, which will entail a significant upgrade to Apple Intelligence. This step will displace the existing GPT-4o system and provide more intelligent, faster, and more competent AI features in Apple products.

As per a report by 9to5Mac, GPT-5 will be able to perform more complicated and expansive tasks that are beyond the capabilities of on-device models developed by Apple. The improvement will dramatically enhance Siri in its capability to answer complex questions and work on AI-enabled applications such as document summarisation, message writing and real-time recognition of objects. Another aspect of Apple is that it will uphold its privacy protection protocols so that ChatGPT requests will be IP-address obfuscated and no information retained by OpenAI.

GPT-5 integration for advanced AI tasks

OpenAI released GPT-5 with significant advancements concerning its reasoning, coding assistance, voice response, and video comprehension. Apple will utilise these features to enrich Apple Intelligence so that the users have the opportunity to employ a more efficient assistant. By connecting their OpenAI accounts, users will gain access to more features, but the data policies of OpenAI will be used in such cases.

New Apple Intelligence features coming in September

The September updates may also come with features such as Live Translation to interpret languages in real-time on FaceTime, Messages, and telephone calls. Visual Intelligence, another addition, will enable users to be recognised and interact with on-screen content on apps. Although Apple has not announced it, OpenAI also published open-weight models optimised to run on Apple Silicon, and the future introduction of offline AI capabilities is possible. After the updates are launched, devices that are supported will incorporate the use of GPT-5 in specific tasks; however, only when users enable ChatGPT integration manually.
