New Delhi: The central government has said that the personal information of crores of Aadhaar users in the country is completely safe and no data of any kind has been leaked from the central database so far. The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology gave this information in Parliament on Wednesday. The ministry said that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has made very stringent security arrangements to protect the data.
Answering questions in the Lok Sabha on December 17, Union Minister of State for IT Jitin Prasad explained in detail about the security measures. The most modern encryption technology is used while transferring and storing Aadhaar data. To ensure that the information does not fall into the wrong hands, a multi-layer security system has been implemented. The minister clarified that this system is based on the principle of ‘Defense in Depth’, in which there are multiple levels of security protection for data.

UIDAI has also gained international recognition for adhering to security standards. The authority has received ISO certification for Information Security Management System. Moreover, the Aadhaar database has been declared a protected system by the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Center and continuous instructions are being given to maintain cyber security. The ministry also informed that regular audits and investigations are conducted through independent agencies using modern technologies.
The world’s largest biometric identification system, Aadhaar currently has about 134 crore active users. Till date, more than 16,000 crore identity verifications have been successfully completed through Aadhaar. He made it clear that the government has taken all necessary precautions to run such a big system without any mistakes.
