Government procurement crossed 15 lakh crore mark
The Digital Purchase Forum of the Government of India has been trading more than Rs 15 lakh crore so far. This information has been given by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in a press note issued. The GEM was launched in the year 2016 so that the government procurement process could be transparent and easy. That is, the goods or services that the government need is now purchased online and there is no disturbance in it, it is taken care of. The GEM has also done a great job in the first quarter (April to June) of this financial year 2024-25. During this time, the business of buying goods and services through the platform has crossed Rs 1.24 lakh crore. The government believes that it will soon become the largest platform in the world.
GEM became the most trusted platform
GEM started 9 years now. During this time, this platform has connected government buyers and goods sellers from all over the country. GEM’s CEO Mihir Kumar said on this occasion, “It is a matter of pride for us to cross the mark of Rs 15 lakh crore. It is the result of the hard work of millions of buyers and vendors who chose GEM. Our aim will be that we should add more people, make the process easier and use technology correctly.”
Small traders get a big opportunity
The GEM has given not only big companies, but also small shopkeepers, women, startups, artisans and disabled to participate in government procurement. Earlier, where it was difficult to participate in the government tender, now through GEM, anyone can register online and sell their goods or service directly to the government. This has given many small entrepreneurs a chance to work with the government.
The biggest feature of GEM is its transparency and accountability. Every transaction is online and has a complete record. This makes it sure that the government’s money is being spent in the right place. This digital platform has not only made government procurement fast and easy, but has also helped to curb corruption.
Gem was opened 9 years ago
The government says that GEM is now playing an important role in realizing the dreams of “Digital India” and “developed India”. In simple language, now the government’s deal has also become online, that too with full honesty. Due to this, people sitting in every corner of the country are also able to connect with the government system.
GEM also celebrated its 9th Foundation Day this month. On this occasion, the Ministry said that the GEM is now putting the principle of “Minimum Government, Maximum Government” i.e. “less government, excess good governance”. GEM has shown that if technology is used properly, then government work can also be fast, clean and beneficial for everyone.
