Government focus, cheap compute, strong infrastructure and human-centric AI development

At the India AI Summit, Union Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary said that India is preparing to move forward rapidly in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He said that compute facility for AI in the country is being provided at the rate of just Rs 65 per hour, which is less than a cinema ticket. The government claims that this rate can be one of the cheapest rates in the world.

Infrastructure will increase under IndiaAI mission

The minister said that this initiative is part of the IndiaAI mission. Under this mission, there is a plan to provide more than one lakh GPUs in the country. This entire project will be carried forward through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, so that the government and private sectors can together create a strong AI infrastructure.

Late start, but big chance

Jayant Choudhary admitted that India still has a long way to go in the global race of AI. However, he called it second mover advantage. He says that India can take better and faster decisions by learning from the experience of other countries. With the policy support of the government and clear leadership thinking, the country can overcome many structural challenges.

Development of AI should be human-centric

The minister stressed that the development of AI should be human-centric. Considering India’s population of more than one billion, he said that the youth of the country should not just be consumers of technology, but should become creators and innovators. With this, India can convert its population into strength.

The role of education and data is important

He said that in today’s time, education and research have become more important than before. Families and educational institutions are also now giving priority to technical education. He also said that data is generated on a large scale in India. With the help of AI, this data can be understood and used in a better way. The government is also considering creating a comprehensive AI stack for the education sector.
