Government became rich due to direct tax collection, how much money came to the treasury

There has been an increase in direct tax collection.

Even though the government has made income up to Rs 12 lakh tax free, there has been no reduction in the government’s tax collection. According to the information, there has been a tremendous increase in tax collection due to increase in corporate tax and reduction in refunds. So far in the current financial year, the government has earned about Rs 12 lakh crore from direct tax collection. There has also been an increase in non-corporate tax collection. Apart from this, there has been an increase in security transaction tax. Let us also tell you how much increase the government has seen in which item of tax.

Government released figures regarding direct tax collection

  1. Net direct tax collections increased by 6.33 per cent to more than Rs 11.89 lakh crore in the current financial year till October 12 due to increase in corporate tax collections and decline in refunds.
  2. The refunds issued between April 1 and October 12 this year declined by 16 percent to Rs 2.03 lakh crore.
  3. The net corporate tax collection between April 1 and October 12 was approximately Rs 5.02 lakh crore, which was Rs 4.92 lakh crore in the same period of 2024.
  4. Non-corporate tax during the period under review was approximately Rs 6.56 lakh crore, which was Rs 5.94 lakh crore in the same period last year.
  5. Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collection stood at Rs 30,878 crore, compared to Rs 30,630 crore in the same period a year ago.
  6. Net direct tax collections, which include personal income tax and corporate tax, increased by 6.33 per cent year-on-year to more than Rs 11.89 lakh crore in the current financial year till October 12. In the same period a year ago, it was approximately Rs 11.18 lakh crore.
  7. In the current financial year till October 12, the gross direct tax collection before adjusting refunds stood at more than Rs 13.92 lakh crore. This shows an increase of 2.36 percent on an annual basis.
  8. The government has set a target of collecting Rs 25.20 lakh crore as direct tax collection in the current financial year (2025-26), which is 12.7 percent more on an annual basis.
