Govardhan Puja story in Hindi (Govardhan ki katha 2025)
According to the legend of Govardhan Puja, one day Lord Krishna saw that the people of Gokul were worshiping Lord Indra. Then he asked his mother the reason for this, then he was told that Lord Indra rains, due to which our crops grow. Hearing this, Shri Krishna said that when all the cows graze on Govardhan Mountain, then why is Indra worshipped? For this reason everyone should worship Govardhan Mountain instead of Indra.
All the people of Braj obeyed Krishna and started worshiping Govardhan Mountain instead of Indra. Seeing this, Lord Indra became angry and started a devastating rain on Braj land. Due to heavy rain, all the people of Braj got worried and reached Shri Krishna. Then, to protect the people and animals from the rain, Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Mountain on his little finger and gave shelter to all the Braj people along with their cows and calves under it.
When Indra saw that Shri Krishna was not an ordinary person, he consulted Brahma ji. Lord Brahma told them that Krishna is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Indra realized his mistake and asked for forgiveness from Lord Krishna.
After Indra was pacified, Lord Krishna placed Govardhan Mountain down and asked all the people of Braj to worship Govardhan and offer Annakoot every year. Since then, the tradition of celebrating Govardhan Puja and Annakoot festival started on this day.
