Govardhan Puja 2025 date: Govardhan Puja every year after Diwali (Goverdhan Puja) The holy festival of is celebrated, which is also called Annakoot festival. This day is dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna and Govardhan Mountain. It is believed that on this day Lord Shri Krishna lifted Govardhan Mountain on his little finger to protect the people of Gokul from the wrath of Lord Indra. This festival gives us the message of expressing gratitude towards nature and understanding the importance of cows. This year, Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month i.e. Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on Wednesday, 22 October 2025. To celebrate the festival properly and get the blessings of Lord Krishna, it is very important to follow some rules.
Take special care of these things on the day of Govardhan Puja (what to do)
Cow worship: Worship of Mother Cow has special significance on this day. Apply tilak to the cow, offer flowers and feed them green fodder.
Draw the shape of Govardhan Mountain: The shape of Govardhan Mountain should be made with cow dung. Decorate it with flowers, roots and paddy. After worship, make sure to circumambulate it seven times.
Annakoot/Chhappan Bhog: On this day, prepare 56 Bhog or Annakoot (various types of grains and dishes) and offer them to Lord Shri Krishna and Govardhan Maharaj. It is considered auspicious to include curry, rice and millet in the offering.
Collective worship: Govardhan Puja should be done together with the entire family. It is considered auspicious for all the family members to participate in the puja together.
Parikrama: Circumambulate Govardhan mountain with cow dung seven times. If possible, the actual circumambulation of Govardhan Mountain should also be done.
Do not do these things even by mistake today (What not to do)
According to beliefs, there are some things which should be avoided on the day of Govardhan Puja, so that the full results of the puja can be achieved.
Tamasic food: On the day of Govardhan Puja, one should not consume or prepare tamasic food like meat, alcohol or garlic-onion at home. Eat only satvik food on this day.
Plucking Basil: Tulsi leaves should not be plucked on the day of Govardhan Puja and also on the Amavasya Tithi that comes before it.
Cutting trees: This festival is also about expressing gratitude towards nature. Therefore, on this day, no tree or plant should be harmed or cut.
Insult of food: Annakoot Prasad or any food should not be wasted. Accept the Prasad respectfully.
Moon Darshan: According to some beliefs, seeing the moon on the day of Govardhan Puja is considered inauspicious.
Black/Blue Clothing: One should avoid wearing black or blue colored clothes during puja.

Govardhan Puja is a festival of expressing gratitude towards nature and Lord Shri Krishna. It teaches us that we should respect nature, food and especially cow for our livelihood.
