Google Chrome adds AI Mode and incognito shortcuts to new tab page on Android and iOS

New Delhi: Google Chrome is increasing the capabilities of its New Tab Page to provide direct shortcuts to AI Mode and Incognito browsing on both Android and iOS. This update is based on the desktop release in the first part of the year and is a continuation of Google’s larger efforts to make the interface of Chrome easier and more convenient to use. Below the Google search box or type URL box will now be two pill-like buttons, one that pops the AI Mode and the other one that opens an Incognito tab.

It is a minor but significant update to make navigation more accessible and eliminate the necessity to navigate the menus. In the past, users were required to open the three-dot menu to initiate a private session or even had to go to the AI Mode site manually. It is now only one tap away from both actions. The New Tab design of Chrome also changes the positions of other features, such as the carousel of favicons and the Discover feed, moving them to a somewhat lower part of the page, making the appearance of the New Tabs more organised and modernised.

Streamlined design, faster access

The new design is more or less similar to the minimalist layout of the Google app since it replaces the colourful ring motif that Google experimented with but scrapped. The change is functional and targeted at being clear and easy to use so that shortcuts are readily recognisable. The Incognito shortcut takes less time than the more traditional approach, and a long press on the Chrome application icon also exists as an option to open a private tab.

AI mode comes to mobile

The new AI Mode button will bring the user directly to Google.com/AI, which will be a faster access to the AI-powered search and creativity tools that Google offers. This resembles the desktop version of Chrome in that several users already use the shortcut to open AI Mode. The implementation belongs to Chrome version 141 and more, which is slowly being spread to the Android and iOS application users around the globe. As a part of this update, Google is making another step towards improving the functionality of its browser, with a focus on speed, simplicity and smarter access.
