Lucknow Metro Project 2025: A new chapter is going to start in the development of Lucknow. The Union Cabinet has approved Phase-1 B of the Metro Rail Project in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project will be around 11.165 km long and will include 12 new stations. Its purpose is to connect the busy and historical areas of Old Lucknow with better public transport. This will not only make travel easier, but is also expected to improve the economy and standard of living of the city.
Why is Metro expansion in old areas of Lucknow?
Lucknow is a fast developing city, but lack of public transport in old and densely populated areas remains a major challenge. Especially there is a need to make access to business centers like Aminabad, Yiyaganj, Pandeyganj, Chowk and healthcare centers like King George Medical University. The expansion of the metro will bridge the gap of connectivity in these areas and will make the traffic comfortable for the citizens.

After the start of Phase 1B, the metro network of Lucknow will reach 34 km. This will reduce traffic jams, especially on the narrow and crowded roads of old Lucknow. At the same time, tourists will also be able to easily reach the historical sites of the city like Bada Imambara, Chhota Imambara, Lazaar, Ghantaghar and Rumi Darwaza.
