The Health Ministry said in a post on Social Media X (first Twitter) that senior citizens aged 70 years or more can now get their Ayushman Vy Vandana card through the Ayushman app and can avail free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh.

The Government of India started Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY on 23 September 2018. This scheme made by the National Health Authority (NHA) provides cashless treatment in public and listed private hospitals across the country. Under this, a medical cover of up to Rs 5 lakh is given.

Who can take advantage and what?

Under this scheme, all senior citizens aged 70 years or above, irrespective of their economic condition, are eligible for free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Many benefits are given under this scheme for senior citizens (70+). The government is now presenting a special provision for senior citizens aged 70 years or older, who can now issue its Ayushman Vandana card through the Ayushman app or website. Also, you can get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually.

  1. Log in as a beneficiary or operator.
  2. Captcha, enter mobile number and authenticate.
  3. Enter OTP and captcha code and then on the login.
  4. Allow access to the location of the device.
  5. Enter the beneficiary’s data including state and base details.

If no beneficiary is found, then proceed with the EKYC process. Give your consent for OTP.

  1. Provide an announcement and fill other information.
  2. Enter the beneficiary’s mobile number and OTP.
  3. Now enter details including category and PIN code.
  4. Add information of family members and proceed to submit.

What are the eligibility criteria for senior citizens under this scheme?

The only eligibility criterion is that the person should be 70 years or more age, as determined by the age recorded in their Aadhaar card.
