Why Did Gold Prices Fall in the Previous Session?
Gold prices in the domestic bullion market declined for a second consecutive session on Tuesday, with the price of 99.9% pure gold falling Rs 400 to Rs 1,52,600 per 10 grams, inclusive of taxes. The All India Sarafa Association had reported a previous closing price of Rs 1,53,000 per 10 grams.
A stronger rupee contributed to the decline by reducing the domestic cost of importing gold. When the Indian currency appreciates against the US dollar, importers generally require fewer rupees to purchase the same quantity of dollar-denominated gold, potentially easing domestic price pressures.
International spot gold, meanwhile, was trading marginally higher at $4,184.73 per ounce during the previous session.
Gold futures also recorded a decline on Tuesday amid subdued spot-market demand and a reduction in speculative positions.
The December delivery contract on MCX fell Rs 81, or 0.05 per cent, to Rs 1,49,462 per 10 grams. In overseas trading in New York, gold gained 0.37 per cent to $4,187.66 per ounce.
What Could Influence Gold Prices Next?
Currency movements, international bullion trends and expectations surrounding US Federal Reserve interest-rate decisions remain important factors for gold investors.
According to the expert commentary provided, Saumil Gandhi, Senior Analyst (Commodities) at HDFC Securities, said domestic gold prices remained under pressure on Tuesday as the rupee strengthened against the dollar.
Gaurav Garg, head of research at brokerage platform Lemon, said gold and silver were trading higher in international markets despite a stronger US dollar. However, uncertainty over the US Federal Reserve’s interest-rate policy could restrict further gains in gold prices.
