God of War Controversy: Seeman Warns Makers, Will They Break Their Silence?

Since the announcement of God of War, starring Jr NTR and directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film has been at the center of controversy. The debate began after the makers unveiled the official tagline: “Born in the North. Forged in the Heartland. Worshipped in the South.” The tagline drew criticism from a section of people in Tamil Nadu, who argued that it misrepresented the cultural and historical roots of Lord Murugan. The makers have yet to respond to the criticism.

The controversy has now intensified after Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman reacted to the tagline. The former filmmaker turned politician said God of War would not be allowed to release in Tamil Nadu if it continued to portray Lord Murugan as having northern origins. Reiterating his long-held view that Lord Murugan is Tamizh Kadavul (the God of the Tamils), Seeman urged the makers to withdraw the narrative and warned that his party would stage protests against the film if no changes were made.

With the film being mounted on a massive pan Indian scale, all eyes are now on the makers’ response. An official clarification could help address the concerns raised by a section of the audience. Notably, Jr NTR was recently seen carrying books related to Lord Murugan ahead of the project’s announcement, suggesting that the team has undertaken research for the film.

It remains to be seen whether Trivikram Srinivas or the makers will respond to the controversy in the coming days. Audiences are now waiting to learn how the film interprets the subject while balancing creative storytelling with cultural and historical sensitivities.
