Panaji, Goa. A massive fire broke out at the famous nightclub ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ in Arpora village in Goa on Sunday, in which 25 people lost their lives and six others were injured. State Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the general manager of the club has been arrested and an arrest warrant has been issued against the owner.

How did the fire spread and why could people not be saved?

Sawant said that the fire broke out between 12 and 1 am. At the time of the incident, about 100 people were present in the club, who were having fun in dance and party. Suddenly the fire broke out and many people could not get out due to narrow entry and exit. Some people ran towards the kitchen but got trapped there and died of suffocation. The injured are being treated at the Goa Medical College and all are now “out of danger”.

When the Chief Minister was asked whether the accident happened due to the negligence of the nightclub, he said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered.
