Panaji, Goa. A massive fire broke out at the famous nightclub ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ in Arpora village in Goa on Sunday, in which 25 people lost their lives and six others were injured. State Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the general manager of the club has been arrested and an arrest warrant has been issued against the owner.
How did the fire spread and why could people not be saved?
Sawant said that the fire broke out between 12 and 1 am. At the time of the incident, about 100 people were present in the club, who were having fun in dance and party. Suddenly the fire broke out and many people could not get out due to narrow entry and exit. Some people ran towards the kitchen but got trapped there and died of suffocation. The injured are being treated at the Goa Medical College and all are now “out of danger”.

When the Chief Minister was asked whether the accident happened due to the negligence of the nightclub, he said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered. The investigation will find out whether the club followed fire safety rules or not. CM described it as such a horrific incident happening for the first time in the history of Goa.
Manager arrested, search for owner continues
The general manager of the club was immediately arrested by the police. Meanwhile, an arrest warrant has been issued against the owner. Officials say the narrow streets and entry-exit conditions of the club delayed the rescue operation. Many deaths occurred due to smoke inhalation.

People present in the club said that the flames suddenly rose and there was chaos. Many people managed to get out, but some got trapped in the kitchen below. Seeing this it seems that the security arrangements were very weak.
