Gmail and Google Calendar now available inside ChatGPT: How to use

OpenAI has rolled out some important updates in their latest GPT 5 model  after facing backlash from users, On 12 August 2025 it was announced by CEO Sam Altman in a X (Twitter) post. Now users can choose between Auto, Fast, and Thinking mode  for GPT-5.

For a better understanding OpenAI allows GPT to have access to your emails, calendar events in Google Calendar, and even your Google contacts to have understanding with users and make conversation engaging. Now ChatGPT allows there plus users to have 3,000 messages per week with GPT 5 thinking along with extra capacity on GPT Thinking mini after that limit.

Three Distinct Modes of GPT-5 

One of the biggest additions is the introduction of three operating modes for GPT-5 which allows users to engage with ChatGPT according to their need. Firstly it comes with Auto, it is default mode for most users, where ChatGPT automatically balances speed and reasoning depth.

Then the Fast mode is optimized for quicker responses with slightly less complex reasoning, ideal for fast and instant doubts. The third one is Thinking, it is designed for deep analysis, long form reasoning, and complex problem-solving. This mode came up with a context limit of 196,000 tokens, enabling ChatGPT to handle extremely detailed conversations or documents.

These all modes  come with Usage Limits, ChatGPT Plus users now receive 3,000 messages per week in GPT-5 Thinking mode, after which they can switch to GPT-5 Thinking mini for continued access.

Google service addition 

The new OpenAI update came with the addition of Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts in ChatGPT, which can be used to perform everyday tasks. By linking these services with ChatGPT the users can quickly search and add their mails without manually opening Gmail, for the batter planning for upcoming plans users don’t have to check calendar again and again events. This can save time, reduce app-switching, and keep all relevant information accessible within one conversation window.

For this Settings user has to go to the Connectors menu and link their Google accounts, allowing ChatGPT to access emails, view calendar schedules, and fetch saved contact details. The feature is being rolled out first to Pro subscribers globally, with availability for Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Education plans expected in the coming weeks.
