Ghaziabad suicide: How probe into three sisters’ death has taken new turns with diary, 2015 incident

New Delhi: In Ghaziabad, on February 4 this year, three sisters died by suicide after jumping from the roof. The three girls, Pakhi (12), Prachi (14) and Nishika(16) died after jumping from the ninth floor of their apartment building. According to reports, their parents were against their gaming addiction and seized their phones, which drove them to take the extreme step.

Sisters hooked on Korean dramas

Their father, Chetan Kumar, has three wives, and they live together. Notably, the three wives are biological sisters. Also, he reportedly had a debt of Rs 2 crore and even sold the mobile phones of his daughters to arrange money for his family. The girls skipped school for two years, and they were reportedly obsessed with Korean entertainment. Moreover, they wrote about family discord in an eight-page pocket diary.

About taking away the phones of his daughters, Kumar told news agency PTI, “I used to pamper my children a lot. They would watch Korean dramas, Korean games, and Korean reels. Their eyes were swollen, which is why I snatched away their phones. They were angry about it. Is taking your child’s phone away a sin?”

Kumar and a 2015 case

Kumar also had a live-in partner around 10 years ago. In 2015, the woman fell from the roof of a flat and died. The death was considered a suicide, according to the news agency PTI. However, officials are reportedly considering the case as part of the Ghaziabad probe to find out the mental state of the children.

The diary found in the scene

Notably, the diary has no mention of the mother or mothers of the three girls. Also, they did not directly explain their decision, as per the investigators. The girls were probably closer to their father than to their mothers. Hence, they allegedly wrote a note addressing their father with “Sorry Papa”, urging him to urgently read their diary.
