New Delhi: The United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday told countries, struggling with oil shortage, due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz to have courage and ‘get their own oil’. Special mention was reserved for the United Kingdom, which Trump said didn’t assist US in ‘decapitation of Iran’.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the US, we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just take it.”
‘Start fighting for yourself’
The US president suggested the countries to start fighting for themselves. “The USA won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us,” he said. He added that the hard part was done as Iran has been decimated. “Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
Iran has effectively closed the Strait after US and Israel launched attacks on its territory, targeting infrastructure and leaders. Iran is only allowing friendly countries’ ships to pass through the Strait.
France has been very unhelpful, says Trump
Trump, in a separate post, also chided France for denying its airspace for US planes headed to Israel, saying the US will remember.
“The Country of France wouldn’t let planes headed to Israel, loaded up with military supplies, fly over French territory. France has been very unhelpful with respect to the ‘Butcher of Iran’, who has been successfully eliminated! The USA will remember!!!”
The war in Iran is now in its fifth week with attack and counterattack continuing in the Gulf region. A US media report has mentioned of an eminent US ground invasion of Iran, with more troops being pushed into the Middle East. Tehran has, meanwhile, said that it was ready for any US ground operation.
