The two leaders reviewed the “good progress” made in trade talks and agreed to “remain in close contact” in the coming weeks.
“Spoke to my friend, President Trump, and congratulated him on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. Also reviewed the good progress made in trade talks. Agreed to stay in close touch in the coming weeks,” PM Modi said in a post on Twitter.

Bilateral trade agreement being discussed between India and America
India and the US are in talks for a bilateral trade agreement. A team of officials from the office of the US Trade Representative visited India on September 16, and positive discussions were held on various aspects of the trade deal. It was decided to intensify efforts in this regard.
Continuing these discussions, a delegation led by Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, visited the US for meetings on September 22. The delegation took forward the discussions with the intention of concluding a mutually beneficial trade agreement as soon as possible.

America has imposed 50 percent tariff on India
The US has imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods, including a 25 percent penalty on imports of Russian oil. Earlier in the day, PM Modi had welcomed the agreement on the first phase of President Donald Trump’s peace plan. “We welcome the agreement on Phase 1 of President Trump’s peace plan. It is also a reflection of PM Netanyahu’s strong leadership. We are hopeful that the release of hostages and increased humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring relief to them and pave the way for lasting peace,” he said in a post on Twitter.
