In the third ODI match against England, suffered a loss by 27 runs at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in the City of Westminster.
With this, the “Three Lions” clinched the three-match ODI series by 2-1 against the “Men in Blue”.
Speaking about the loss, Team India’s skipper Shubman Gill feels that his team conceded too many runs in the last three overs of the game.
“We were right in the game until the 45th over (when batted). Gave away a lot of runs in the last three overs. That’s where the game went away from us,” he said in the post-match presentation.
Batting first, England posted a gigantic total of 387 runs for the loss of just three wickets. Later during the run chase, the “Men in Blue” managed to reach 360 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The visitors’ skipper said that his team tried to score six to seven runs per over, and later accumulate 10 runs, but didn’t taste success in it.
“We thought if we had wickets in hand after 40 overs, we would be in the game. At the same time, we didn’t want to be too far behind. After the powerplay we tried to play at 6-6.5 runs per over and chase at 10 in the last 10 overs,” said Gill.
Despite the loss, delivered a crucial knock. Facing 110 balls, he garnered 138 runs, laced with 17 boundaries and five maximums. Speaking about his knock, Gill said that it was a treat to watch him bat.
“They (Rohit and Kohli) have done well over the years in different parts of the world. Pleased with how Rohit batted today. The wicket got slow in the end, wasn’t easy to bat, but treat to watch,” he said.
The skipper then admitted that his bowlers didn’t bowl well and were unable to recover after conceding too many runs in the first powerplay.
“Almost everyone got runs. In this match particularly, we didn’t bowl well in the first powerplay. The way they capitalised never gave us chance to come back. At the death, they got too far away from us,” said the 26-year-old cricketer.

After concluding with the series against England, the “Men in Blue” will lock horns with for the three-match T20I series. The first match between Team India and Zimbabwe is scheduled to be played on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club.
