While the Indian bowling line-up excelled in the Asia Cup fixture against the United Arab Emirates, it was wicketkeeper Sanju Samson’s inclusion in the playing XI that gained the attention of fans on social media.
Ahead of India’s Asia Cup opener against the UAE, there was some confusion about India’s playing combination. With Jitesh Sharma in the hunt for the wicketkeeper’s spot, many felt that the road ahead for Samson may very well be bumpy.
But proving the doubting Thomas wrong, the Indian team management decided to slot Samson in the playing XI. While Samson did not get a chance to showcase his prowess with the willow against the UAE, his inclusion was certainly a reason to rejoice for many fans.
Praise for Gautam Gambhir
Many people praised head coach Gautam Gambhir for including Samson in the squad. One fan had no qualms in openly expressing his admiration. “We love you Gautam Gambhir. Thanks for always backing Sanju Samson, you will always have our support,” read the post shared on X.

In the 11th over of the UAE innings, Samson pulled off a brilliant low dive to his right and took an exceptional catch to send Asif Khan back to the dressing room.
Batting first, the UAE could manage to reach a paltry total of 57. In response, India lost one wicket and scored the winning runs comfortably with 93 balls to spare. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s star performer, having claimed four wickets. He was adjudged the player of the match as India clinched a convincing nine-wicket triumph.
